Un emblema è un modello per rappresentare un'idea e mostra una parte pittorica e una scritta.
Nel 1531 appare il primo libro degli emblemi, gli Emblemata di Andrea Alciato (1492-1550) che suscitò un fascino che durò alcuni secoli, toccando gran parte dei paesi dell'Europa occidentale.
"Emblema" in questo senso si riferisce a una combinazione didattica o moralizzante di immagine e testo destinata a trascinare il lettore in un esame autoriflessivo della propria vita. Associazioni complicate di emblemi trasmettono informazioni morali, una caratteristica del movimento artistico del XVI secolo chiamato Manierismo. Questo mazzo molto speciale si ispira a questi emblemi a partire dal XVI secolo fino al XIX secolo.
Un’unica eccezione viene fatta per De rerum naturis (Mondo) dell’XI secolo, fonte di isprazione per molti emblemi successivi. Ad ogni carta dei Tarocchi è unito un motto, ovvero un significato istruttivo sul comportamento da adottare.
Le immagini sono state ridisegnate e colorate a mano, così da riportare in auge l’antica ed affascinante vividezza di questa arte unica e affascinante.

An emblem is a kind of model representing an idea, while depicting both pictorial and written elements, meant to instruct and inspire. The first book of emblems appeared in 1531 as, the Emblemata by Andrea Alciato (1492-1550), which soon cast a spell over much of Western Europe that lasted for centuries. "Emblem" in this sense, refers to a didactic combination of image and text intended to draw the participant into a self-reflective examination of his or her own life.
Extensive associations of such emblems conveying moralistic and inspirational information was characteristic of an artistic movement from the 16th century called Mannerism.
This very special deck was inspired by these emblems from the 16th century, on up till the 19th century. One exception is made for De rerum naturis (World) from the 11th century; a source of inspiration for several subsequent emblems. A ‘motto’ is added to each Tarot card, meant as an instructional message of positive behavior to be encouraged. The images have been redesigned and colored by hand, so as to bring back the ancient, fascinating allure of this unique and compelling art.
